About Karen

Karen has been facilitating improvisation and Interplay for 20 years in Australia, and in the last few years in the the US, the UK and India.  Her first foray into Theatre Sports in the mid 90’s opened a world of expression that was playful, therapeutic and gave full expression without the need for the mental aspect of our lives always running the show.

The power of improvisation and trusting the wisdom of the body brings a deep sense of relief trust and safety to everything.  And the tangental therapeutic nature of Interplay has been a powerful resource in regaining healthy wellbeing and resilience. InterPlay is easy, fun, and life changing.

Interplay fosters freedom - the freedom to move, to think, to feel, to be!

What is InterPlay?

It is an active, creative way to unlock the wisdom of the body.  It is based in a series of incremental “forms” that lead participants to movement and stories, silence and song, ease and amusement. In the process, we discover the wisdom in ourselves and our communities.

InterPlay integrates body, mind, heart and spirit. Life has become so fragmented and with recent events the body and mind may need a gentle place to unwind.  InterPlay helps to pull everything back together so we get more of what we want.

InterPlay is devoted to fun. It teaches the language and ethic of play in a deep, powerful and transformative way.

InterPlay is firmly based in affirmation and looking for the good. You don’t have to think of yourself as creative in order to do InterPlay. We can teach you that part easily. We get far too much criticism in our lives already. We need to spend more time in the warm bath of acceptance.

These sessions are for people of all ages, diversities and all abilities.  We will share our stories through movement, song, stillness and words connecting to the wisdom of our bodies.

The power of witnessing, moving and acknowledgement will be a support to navigate the next stages of creation with grace, easy, presence and insight

What to Expect

  • What kind of group interaction happens? Participants work in twos, threes, in the whole group and as individuals.

• Learning curve? Steps or techniques to master? Incremental steps teach people to access their movement, voice, storytelling, stillness, and ability to connect. The InterPlay process holds keys that unlock security, confidence, and success. We return to same basic steps over and over even with advanced participants.

• Structured or free form? Artful exercises create space for experimentation. Similar to sitting mediation after a little instruction and a bell, there is a time of practice, then another bell. Whether in movement, voice, stories, or stillness the amount of time and the creative practices are determined according to the level of readiness.

• Physical contact/touch/boundaries? When and if appropriate we invite hand-to-hand contact activity as a reference point.  Personal choice is respected at all times.

• Physical/Spiritual/Emotional component? InterPlay is rooted in the idea that body mind heart and spirit are together and that we can relate to our individual and collective body information.
