Trauma-Aware Yoga
Trauma-Aware Yoga considers the needs of students who have experienced significant trauma in their lives. This course provides yoga teachers with the tools to create a ‘safe space’ and offer the optimal conditions for students with trauma related health concerns such as occupational trauma, chronic stress, physical injuries, adrenal and chronic fatigue to use yoga to progress their recovery.
Course Overview
This is an introduction to trauma yoga, based on a 25 hour course for anyone looking to expand their skills to better assist students who are working through trauma and related conditions. The course is taught from an experiential platform so participants will undertake sessions in specific Trauma-Aware Yoga and practical workshops on the nuances of leading Trauma-Aware Yoga classes.
You will learn how to understand the key body systems affected by trauma and how incorporate Trauma-Awareness into your classes.
Ultimately Trauma-Aware Yoga supports clients through the facilitation of ‘safe space’ that allows for parasympathetic support and increases the effectiveness of ongoing treatment and self-management techniques.
About Chris
Chris started practicing yoga asana while he served in the Military. It reduced stress and was particularly helpful in processing traumatic experiences from his time deployed to Afghanistan.
After 14 years service, he left the Military and went straight into yoga teacher training, completing his Level 1 in Bali and then Level Two and the Certificate IV with Byron Yoga Centre. He has also studied with Trauma-Sensitive Australia, Trauma Centre Trauma-Sensitive Yoga and completed the Byron Yoga Centre Remedial Yoga course with Maria Kirsten.
He currently balances his time between family, working with Byron Yoga Centre and running Frontline Yoga which provides Trauma-aware Yoga to the Military, First Responder and Emergency Services community.
With a passion to enhance the delivery of Yoga to Frontline professionals, Chris runs Trauma-Aware Yoga Teacher Trainings. Using Yoga as a medium, he also contributes to the Character and Leadership development of Officer Cadets at the Australian Defence Force Academy
